Mabel Adinya Ade, national coordinator of the Transition Monitoring Group, said she feared her organisation was being harassed by authorities because it was speaking out about poor preparations for the elections.
Observers were having trouble getting accredited because the State Security Services (SSS) were checking everyone’s personal details, she said.
“We saw that as intimidation. We don’t know why we should have to be checked by the SSS because that usually means you have offended the federal government,” Ade told Reuters.
